Google Meet now uses post-quantum cryptography
What the source reported
Source-reported<p>Calls in Google Meet will use post-quantum cryptography (PQC) for extra protection, starting now with laptop web clients and meeting room hardware, with mobile support coming soon. There are no visible changes, and you can continue using Meet normally. The updated encryption protects your data against potential future quantum computer threats.</p><p>The expansion of PQC to all Meet calls will help to secure infrastructure and services against the potential threat of a future cryptographically relevant quantum computer. No such computer exists today; however this change helps protect today's Meet traffic from the theoretical risk of being harvested and decrypted by a future quantum computer, an approach commonly referred to as Store Now, Decrypt Later.</p><p>Google Meet has used quantum-safe encryption previously for client-side encrypted calls (CSE).</p><p>Google automatically implements all necessary updates to benefit all Meet hosts and participants. Administrators and end users don't need to take any action.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5Jr4BBKwpGwvgtUwrBhZ4xZNXuO3qHlaoldUHmU4toV9De6fnhZtN46S3qX4l7cpz_uIwMNmhJ5CcZEnZOFpdjNKy3SnB2p5l_7J3OAOUfanH1iHMSVrSpQRmq58ajmdh-UdDLQ1CBZ29t94AtcKm_T3AJ-HarPrffnb_pHTMdNFrt52W6geU_sITduo/s2048/Google%20Meet%20now%20uses%20post-quantum%20cryptography%20-%205179.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1155" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5Jr4BBKwpGwvgtUwrBhZ4xZNXuO3qHlaoldUHmU4toV9De6fnhZtN46S3qX4l7cpz_uIwMNmhJ5CcZEnZOFpdjNKy3SnB2p5l_7J3OAOUfanH1iHMSVrSpQRmq58ajmdh-UdDLQ1CBZ29t94AtcKm_T3AJ-HarPrffnb_pHTMdNFrt52W6geU_sITduo/s1600/Google%20Meet%20now%20uses%20post-quantum%20cryptography%20-%205179.png" /></a></div><h3 style="text-align: left;">Getting started</h3><p></p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li><b>Admins: </b>There is no admin control for this feature.</li><li><b>End users:</b> There is no end user setting for this feature. Initial assessment ProcIntel's automatic, provisional read of this individual Signal -- Initial Significance and Initial Confidence, computed deterministically before any Event extraction or human review.
A provisional, automatically computed reading of this individual Signal, before Event extraction or human review. Not a final rating.
Initial Significance Low (13.0/100). Strongest contributor: Procurement Impact (6.0/30 points). Limiting factor: Geographic Breadth (0.0/10 points). Initial Confidence Low (39/100, data sufficiency: Insufficient). Strongest contributor: Source Authority (40.0/40 points). Limiting factor: Specificity (0.0/20 points). Capped at 39 (Low) -- insufficient structured evidence to support a higher Confidence reading, regardless of source authority.
