Sharjah Airport welcomes over 390,000 passengers

Sharjah Airport recorded a significant surge in passenger traffic during the week of 10 to August 16. The Airport welcomed more than 390,000 passengers during what is considered the peak of the summer travel season, as travellers returned from their holidays ahead of the new academic year. Arriving passengers at Sharjah Airport exceeded 175,000, while departing passengers totalled approximately 151,000, with more than 66,000 transit passengers also recorded in the same period. The Airport also recorded 1,175 departing and 1,175 arriving flights, serving more than 100 international destinations. This reflects the airport’s role as a regional hub for passenger and air cargo movement, connecting travellers and goods through a global network of destinations. The highest daily passenger movement during the week was recorded on 15th August, with a total of 48,859 arriving and departing passengers, comprising 25,251 arrivals and 23,608 departures, as families and travellers continued their summer journeys. The most active destinations for the week were Cairo, Doha, Dhaka, and Amman, reflecting sustained demand for travel to key regional and international markets. These figures demonstrate the effectiveness of the preparations undertaken by Sharjah Airport to meet travel demand during the peak summer season, when the Airport expected to welcome approximately three million passengers and handle around 19,000 flight movements across July and August. This was supported by an integrated operational plan implemented by the Airport in coordination with its strategic partners to accommodate continued growth in passenger traffic, ensure the smooth flow of operations, and enhance the readiness of all teams across the Airport. Meanwhile, Air Arabia has  announced the launch of its new non-stop service connecting Sharjah International Airport with Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport in Poland. Commencing on 14th December 2026, the new service will operate five weekly non-stop flights, further strengthening Air Arabia’s presence in the Polish market. Gdansk joins the airline’s existing services from Sharjah to Warsaw Chopin and Krakow, alongside the upcoming service to Katowice, which will commence in December. With Gdansk joining the network, Air Arabia will connect Sharjah with four cities across Poland, providing customers with direct and convenient travel options to key destinations across the country while supporting growing tourism, business and economic ties between the UAE and Poland. Adel Al Ali, Group Chief Executive Officer, Air Arabia, said: “We are pleased to add Gdansk to our growing network in Poland as we continue to expand our presence across Europe. The new service reflects our commitment to connecting Sharjah with key international destinations while providing our customers with reliable and value-driven travel options. With five weekly non-stop flights, the new service will support both leisure and business travel while contributing to the growing ties between the UAE and Poland.” Tomasz Kloskowski, President of the Management Board of Gdansk Airport, said, “We expect this route to provide a significant boost to the regional economy. The direct connection will facilitate business cooperation and trade relations, while also helping to attract investors from the Middle East to Pomerania. It will also support tourism in both directions - from Gdansk to the Arabian Peninsula and by bringing more visitors from the Gulf region to Pomerania. Previous experience shows that tourists from the Gulf countries generate significant value for the local tourism industry. With its cooler summers and access to the Baltic Sea, the Tri-City and Pomerania are becoming increasingly attractive holiday destinations for these travelers.”  SEWA builds two new reservoirs in Khorfakkan:  As part of Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) plans to enhance the water security system and improve the efficiency and sustainability of the water networks in Khorfakkan, the authority is continuing the implementation of a project to construct two new reservoirs at the SEWA 1 and SEWA 2 stations, with a storage capacity of 2 million gallons each, at a total cost of Dhs 28.23 million. Engineer Saud Abdul Aziz, Director of the Khorfakkan Department at SEWA, explained that the project aims to support the water storage and distribution system. He said it will contribute to doubling the storage capacity at the two stations, enhancing the network’s flexibility and increasing its ability to meet growing demand, thus supporting the continuity and efficiency of water supplies under all circumstances.
